Breast Cancer Awareness Month Ideas

I will be posting blog entries to give you ideas on how to promote Breast Cancer Awareness through your blog and business for October. You may choose to post one blog entry with a lot of information, or little tidbits throughout the month. Here are a few to get started. I'll be posting more over the next few weeks. You can always post a blog entry, or reminders at the end of these entries to tell your clients about your participation in Think Pink Photography. If you have an idea that you want to share, please email me at:
admin@thinkpinkphotography.org

Thanks!

Post a Public Service Announcement:
CELEBRATE NATIONAL BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month educates women about the importance of early detection. More and more women are getting mammograms to detect breast cancer in its earliest stages. As a result, breast cancer deaths are on the decline. Encourage the women in your life to get mammograms on a regular basis. Visit the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month website at http://www.nbcam.org for more information.

This message is brought to you by {your business name}.

Promote Email Reminder Services
BREAST SELF EXAM and MAMMOGRAM EMAIL REMINDERS
The early detection of breast cancer is so important! Stay on top of your self exams and mammograms by using this link to send yourself email reminders. You can enter your information for a monthly self exam reminder, and again for an annual mammogram reminder.

Faces of Courage - Brandon, FL - need photographers

Faces of Courage.org would like to invite photographers to join their camp in Brandon, FL on Sat., September 6, 2008. There will have about 100 campers at this
free program.

Faces of Courage Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit cancer patient support organization, dedicated to providing, free of charge, programs emphasizing practical education; life coping strategies; and improved self esteem; through non-threatening, engaging, and recreational outings and overnight camps, with a primary goal of helping the cancer patient navigate their way through the treatment process and to thrive as a survivor. At no cost to the participants, we provide programs, day outings, overnight camps, picnics and "end of chemo" parties.

Think Pink photographers willing to donate their time on this afternoon should contact Heather by emailing heather@heatherpapolosphotography.com Due to time and space limitations, only the first 8 photographer who commit can participate. Information concerning the open spots can be found at www.scraphappyheather.blogspot.com

Creating More Awareness

Hey everyone! Hope this update finds you all doing well. If you aren't already aware, I'd like to welcome Yolanda Rowe as our new Administrative Coordinator! The response to Think Pink has been WONDERFUL - but too much for me to handle on my own! Yolanda has graciously stepped in to help us out. THANK YOU YOLANDA!

We aren't even a year old yet and we've grown so rapidly, so please bare with us because I think in the long run we have a lot of potential with this organization.

In the beginning, I was just trying to keep things together for the photographers that were joining. Now that Yolanda can help with adding people to the network, I'd like to focus more on awareness. The more awareness we can create for Think Pink, the more people will also know about your businesses.

I'd welcome any ideas you may have on creating awareness for Think Pink - these can be suggestions that I can do for the organization in general (for example, I will be contacting other breast cancer related organizations so they know we are here, exchanging links and other promotional ideas - if you know of any organizations you think would make good partners, please let me know). Your suggestions can also be for things each photography business could do to promote themselves and Think Pink.

If you have input, you can email me directly at:
admin@thinkpinkphotography.org

Thank you so much for your participation and your patience as we grow and move forward!

BUT...you will be subscribed to the blog, so you will receive an email with the blog entry every time. Just a minor change, but wanted you to know what's up.

You will receive an email asking you to confirm your new blog subscription...PLEASE COMPLETE THIS - if you do not, you will not receive ANY information or updates from Think Pink.

Thanks!!

Change in Non-Profit Status

Think Pink Photography will be classified as a CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION now rather than a NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION.

What is the difference?
Simply put, if and organization accepts tax exempt donations, it needs to file as a non-profit organization with tax exempt status.

Why the change?
After talking with the attorney, we agree that the paperwork and requirements to stay compliant as a non-profit/tax exempt organization are just too much for me to handle on my own.  I'm trying to get some administrative help because I'd like to focus my efforts on more public relations and awareness.  Even with that help, the requirements to stay a non-profit/tax exempt organization are pretty extreme and I can't take that on right now.

How does this affect everyone with Think Pink?
Basically, this ONLY affects us through donations and fundraising.  We will still provide support to the Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation in addition to the charitable Think Pink sessions...but, the donations will go directly through the Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation rather than to Think Pink.

Since funds will not be accepted in Think Pink's name, we do not need to be tax exempt...and not being tax exempt saves a lot of paperwork and time on our end!  We can still support their cause without the extra administrative burden.

Now, our donate page links directly to the Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation donation page.  Payments sent by mail are now sent to the Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation at the address provided on our donate page.  When you make a donation, please put "Think Pink" in the notes of your online payment or the memo line of your check.

If you have additional questions about this change, please email me at any time!

Thanks!
